Radio from the Ukraine wins OneWorld/Unicef prize
The Ukrainian radio program The Voice of Children has won the
2002 OneWorld/Unicef prize as the best children’s radio program.
The winning program, created by youngsters between ten and eighteen
years old, is about children who live on the street. The prize must
support the importance of radio programs for and by children. The
programs give children the chance to express their own voices regarding
issues they find important, and they frequently reach groups of
children that are missed by other media. According to Unicef radio
is the only medium that can reach everyone in the world. This year
was the second time the prize has been awarded. The other finalists
were from Belize, the Philippines, the United States and Senegal.
