Centre Soleil d'Afrique (Bamako, Mali) offers (young) Malinese artists facilities for research, production and presentation in the visual arts. The Centre organises workshops, debates, exhibitions and artists-in-residence projects with the participation of artists from Mali, neighbouring countries and other parts of the world. Centre Soleil has at its disposal the knowledge and techniques of both traditional Malinese arts and crafts as well as contemporary forms and concepts of visual arts. The interactions between this art and the art and crafts is consequently a theme that recurs in the activities. In October, within the framework of the 5th Rencontres de la Photographie in Mali, Centre Soleil is organising a workshop in which contemporary photography will be translated into the Malinese Bogolan art of painting.
