In April 2003 ruangrupa organised a happening in the Cemeti gallery in Yogyakarta; Eating well without paying. The artists created an interactive environment in which objects (design, artistic and everyday objects) and people played a role. The art public were offered a chic dinner, live music and discussion and in this way they played a role in their own show. This interactive project examined the attitude and the behaviour of the public with regard to an art space.
The “leftovers” of the evening, from full ashtrays and dirty dishes to objects of art, were subsequently exhibited. A chaotic entity in which, in your imagination, anything could have been enacted.
