Ruangrupa (Jakarta, Indonesia) was established by Ade Darmawan and six other artists from Jakarta. The artists’ initiative offers artists an opportunity to formulate, develop and exchange ideas. In the projects and collaborations, the interaction with urban life in the city of Jakarta - that is built up solely on political and economic motives, plays a determining role. Apart from the organisation of workshop projects, artists-in-residence, debates and a biennial video festival, ruangrupa publishes Karbon, the only contemporary art magazine in Indonesia.
